DE SCHOONHEID VAN NEE

A Lavender Films production about the young woman Nikki, who continuously tries to adapt to her surroundings, in hopes of fulfilling other people’s expectations. The more she tries to please her family and friends, the more Nikki starts to lose sense of who she is when nobody’s watching.

In this short movie, me and three other actors each portrayed one of Nikki’s different social identities: the mother’s daughter, the father’s daughter, the girlfriend and the best friend. As the movie progresses, these identities start to overlap and morph, until there is no way to keep them apart anymore. In order to convey to the audience that the four of us portrayed the same character, we worked to develop a collective movement quality, copying each other’s movements in scenes so that the editor could combine the different takes.
